There are some dramatic changes taking place in Barga at the very start of this new year. As we all know, life is about a constant and never-ending change but sometimes it’s the speed of those changes that wrong foots us, is it not ? One of the enduring qualities of living in Barga is the speed of life here … it does seem to move at a slightly slower pace than other places so when changes do occur they can be sometimes startling in nature.
One of those jolting changes occurred on the last day of 2010 when one of the shops that have been open in Barga Giardino for what seemed like a lifetime put up a note on their window telling everybody that the shop would be closing that day. The fruit and vegetable shop run by Antonio Baldacci and his family had been in business for 41 years. The next day it was gone – vanished. Not a potato, apple or carrot to be seen.
But, following on from “life means change” ethic, work started this week on renovating the shop ready for the new owners and a new business which should be ready for the Barga public later on this month, or in early February. Watch this space for further details.
