The Filarmonica G. Luperini, otherwise known as the Barga Band held an impromptu concert yesterday afternoon in Barga Vecchia.
No posters to advertise the event, no publicity, nothing, They just turned up and started to play. Within minutes their music had drawn a sizeable crowd who obviously enjoyed the one off concert applauding loudly at the end of each piece of music.
The band have been together for many years with a constantly changing line up and with various conductors at their head and have featured many times on this site. It has to be said that their overall presentation has been solid and traditional but something has obviously changed recently as there seems to be a new enthusiasm and will to change their usual set of tunes and try something a little different.
In fact the audience in the piazza were treated to quite a few new tunes which the band were trying out publicly for the first time (with varying success) but there is a wind of change about the whole affair.
That change was no more evident later on in the evening after a “pit stop” at Cafe Capretz” where fuelled up by pizza and some beverages they were suddenly transformed into a boisterous marching band enjoying every minute of making music together as they wound their way out of Barga Vecchia.
