The annual Concerto Lirico organised by the Associazione Musicale Il Serchio delle Muse up at the Rifugio Rossi which is situated on the mountainside leading up to the Pania della Croce, took place this afternoon with a large cast and sizeable crowd enjoying the sunshine and music at 1600 metres above sea level. It has to be said that it is not the easiest place in the world to get to – only accessible by a 2 hour climb up through the trees and then once past the tree line across to the rifugio. That is if you do not have a helicopter to make life a little easier. There was some surprise expressed by certain members of the audience as to just how many trips the helicopter was actually doing ferrying people up to the rifugio. Some people certainly got up there the easy way.
There was another surprise waiting at the end of the concert when the audience finally retraced their steps back down the mountain to their parked cars at Piglionico. More than 60 cars had fines attached to their windscreens.
The polemic about the fact that the Comune of Molazzana has installed a toll machine which now costs three euros to use the road can be seen in this article which we published earlier this month
There are some angry people up in the mountains this week after the decision by the Amministrazione Comunale of Molazzana to ask visitors for a contribution to the upkeep of the road leading to Piglionico, one of the main roads leading up to La Pania.
The Comune of Molazzana has installed a toll machine at the start of the road informing people in four languages that it now costs three euros to use the road.
Antonello Chiodo, who runs the Rifugio Rossi (site here) up at 1600 metres on the way to Pania della Croce, which provides a stop off point for many of the visitors to the mountain is in no doubt that the tax is unfair and will damage his trade.
