Piazza Annunziata is gradually turning into the place to be in Barga Vechia in the evening to listen to some quality music. The piazza is not the largest in the Barga Vecchia and until recently many people walked on past as they made their way deeper into the castle but there is now a definite movement to firmly put the piazza on the music map.
As we reported earlier on this summer (article here) – “the Mordimi osteria in Piazza Annunziata in Barga Vecchia re -opened their doors recently with the sound of music playing in the background as new management and a new direction brings once again this corner of Barga to life.” … and they have certainly lived up to that expectation with a full “musical menu” playing for most of last month.
A series of new bands and groups will be playing in the piazza all through August as well. This evening it was the turn of The Street Band from Lucca. Simone Franchi on vocals and Paolo Sodini on guitar. Just two musicians but they managed to weave a whole tapestry of sound with the careful use of some live sampling.
A thoroughly entertaining evening, lets hope the pair are back in Barga again shortly.
A side note: please, please, please somebody sort out the lighting in the piazza – these groups are all playing in more or less darkness … all they need is a couple of well placed lights so that the audience can actually see their faces 🙂
