Yesterday the carpark on the Fosso was filled with the sound of high-performance sports cars as the first regional Lotus Meeting took place (article here)
Today it was the turn of a somewhat lesser “beast” but one which nevertheless is very dear to many, many people right through the generations here in Italy.
After all who could imagine Italy without the sight and sound of the Vespa? -- the post-war mode of transport (along with the three wheeler Ape) which changed the face of this country.
Today they were Vespas of all types, sizes, ages and colours to suit a huge variety of tastes as over 200 Vespa enthusiasts from right across northern Italy converged on the city of Barga for the fifth annual interregional Vespa meeting.

There was a very good chance that there would have been almost double that number attending but some of the distances involved would make it very difficult for them to return home in time to watch tonight’s European 2012 final between Italy and Spain.

Dopo il raduno delle Lotus il sabato 30 giugno, con i loro rombanti motori, il piazzale del Fosso, domenica 1° luglio ha di nuovo ospitato dei motori, rombanti anch’essi, ma sicuramente più fumosi e tossicchianti, con il V raduno interregionale dei Vespa Club organizzato dal Vespa Club Barga.
Barga ha così nuovamente celebrato un mito tutto italiano, del design tricolore, ma anche della sua rinascita dopo la guerra. Quest’anno l’appuntamento ha fatto registrare il record di presenze con oltre 200 Vespa di tutti i tipi e di tutte le età che hanno preso parte al raduno. Sono venute da diverse località della Toscana e se la sera non ci fosse stata la finale Italia – Spagna sicuramente si sarebbero registrate molte più adesioni. Sono mancarti infatti i vespisti provenienti delle località toscane più lontane, che se fossero venuti a Barga la sera avrebbero avuto difficoltà a rientrare in tempo per la partita.
Cpmunque sia è stato appunto un successo. Tantissimi partecipanti che dopo il ritrovo sul Fosso con la foto di gruppo di rito, hanno scorrazzato per le strade barghigiane con una puntata a Cardoso e poi l’arrivo presso gli impianti sportivi di Filecchio dove si è tenuto come lo scorso anno il ritrovo conviviale all’ombra dei tendoni della sagra (ma che caldo lo stesso!!!).
