The constant rain over the past few days has meant that the Serchio river which runs through the bottom of the valley is now running at an extremely high level.
Just in the last 24 hours more than 125 mms of rain has fallen on Barga
Early this morning the river was flowing at over 500 cubic metres a second but with the torrential rain during the day that figure swiftly rose to 1000 cubic metres a second with various authorities keeping a careful control on the situation.

Further downstream at Lucca, the Protezione Civile as still on alert and the rain just keeps on falling.
Later this afternoon, more electrical storms hit Barga and Garfagnana dropping more rain and large hailstones on the area.
