Palazzo Carli – Sillico – cuckoo clocks, music and abstraction

images from daily life in bargaAn interesting series of exhibitions opened this weekend at the Palazzo Carli in Silicco, Garfagnana with what called be called by any means, a distinctly international flavour.

The proceedings opened with a short speech by Fra’ Benedetto (a Frenchman) from the Centro Internazionale Cultura e Spiritualita’ Fra’ Benedetto who introduced the assembled audience to the music of a clarinet player (Italiano) and a soprano voice (Japanese).

After a short talk on the historical birth of abstract art, the exhibition of abstract paintings “La Via Dolorosa” of Mohammed Atif, a Moroccan born painter who studied at the Ecole Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca in his home country before moving to France in 1987 was officially opened.

On the floor below this exhibition was another, this time of 80 pendulum and cuckoo clocks from Maurizio Moscardini who had put together his impressive collection whilst living in Switzerland.

Mohammed Atif, the Moroccan born painter who studied at the Ecole Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca in his home country before moving to France in 1987 where he attended the Université Montpellier III Paul Valéry in Montpellier is in this area this week as he has an exhibition of his paintings at the Centro Internazionale Cultura e Spiritualita’ Fra’ Benedetto in Sillico on Sunday.

He called into that other “cultural centre” here in Barga – Aristo’s bar earlier this week and we had a chance to sit down for a few minutes for a brief chat about his art.

You can hear in the audioboo in this article here about some of the difficulties for a painter making abstract art and why he has named his exhibition “La Via Dolorosa”

His exhibition of abstract paintings “La Via Dolorosa” can be seen at the Centro Internazionale Cultura e Spiritualita’ Fra’ Benedetto in Sillico 5 pm Sunday 19th May 2013 until the 14th July 2013
