Last month’s celebrations for San Cristoforo included the ceremony held each year in the Teatro dei Differenti – the Premio San Cristoforo d’Oro (Golden St Christopher medals) named for Barga’s ancient patron, Saint Christopher which are presented each year to celebrate extraordinary contributions to the town and its people. In that article we published over 70 images of the prize winners receiving their medals, certificates and awards but there was one image that maybe slipped under the radar adn so we are publishing it again.
It was an image of the Mayor of Barga Marco Bonini holding up a small orange box.
A small box but one with quite a large importance as it was the fruit of an endeavour by pupils of Class 5A and 5B of the Scuola Primaria di Barga – Instituto Comprensivo “g.Pascoli” of Barga as they took part in the project “il Laboratorio della Cittadinanza”
The box contained a pack of cards designed and printed by the pupils and teachers featuring images of places, objects and people important to life here in Barga
The teachers, Cinque, Favoino, Pieroni and Contrucci stated that their their aim was the stimulate historic interest in their territory and culture through a game of cards.
It has to be said that these are not the first set of playing cards to come out of Barga – who remembers this set from over a decade ago, a half a dozen of those faces are now long deceased and what about that set of political cards that were doing the rounds back 1n 2009 ?
