If the conditions are right and you are in the right place at the right time, it is possible twice a year, on the 11th – 12th November and the 30th – 31st January to see the doppio tramonto – the double sunset viewed from outside the Duomo in Barga Vecchia.
Once again this year unfortunately no double sunset was visible as low clouds obscured the Monte Forato.
Now we’ll have to wait until January next year until the spinning earth once again lines up the sun dipping below the horizon, Monte Forato and the viewpoint from the Duomo in Barga.
Even though the official date is 11th and 12th of November there were still some visitors to Barga this afternoon, hoping to catch maybe just a glimpse of this fabled event.
They were out of luck visually but there was another feast for the senses coming out the door of the darkened Duomo – the sound of somebody playing the organ.
