Abbiamo l’onore e il privilegio di avere al Barga Jazz Club Rashmi Bhatt, musicista di Tabla di fama internazionale. I Tabla sono una coppia di strumenti a percussione molto diffusi in India che vengono suonati con le dita.
Tabla is a pair of drums. It consists of of a small right hand drum called dayan and a larger metal one called bayan.
The tabla has an interesting construction. The dayan (right hand drum) is almost always made of wood. The diameter at the membrane may run from just under five inches to over six inches. The bayan (left hand drum) may be made of iron, aluminium, copper, steel, or clay; yet brass with a nickel or chrome plate is the most common material. Undoubtedly the most striking characteristic of the tabla is the large black spot on each of the playing surfaces. These black spots are a mixture of gum, soot, and iron filings. Their function is to create the bell-like timbre that is characteristic of the instrument.
Although the origin of tabla is somewhat obscure, it is generally belived that it evolved from the barrel shaped drum called pakhawaj. This was about three hundred years ago.
Rashmi V. Bhatt, born in Gujarat, India, grew up in an environment steeped in Indian music and has studied tabla under the guidance of Sree Torun Banerjee. He later taught in a school of music in southern India also performing in concerts.
He then moved to Europe where he tours and works with the Embassy of India in Rome; he is in demand as an accompanist for artists in transit in Europe. Rashmi chose Florence as his residence and regularly holds concerts, seminars and lectures of Indian music at conservatories.
Fascinated by the possibilities of experimentation and fusion between different ethnic groups and their musical languages, he began collaborating with musicians like Ayub Okada, Tullio De Piscopo, Tony Esposito, Markus Stockhausen, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook.
He is the Artistic Director of the World Rhythm Festival – Percussionist and formed the multi-ethnic group “The Third Planet”.
Rashmi V. Bhatt, nato in Gujarat, India, è cresciuto in un ambiente permeato di musica indiana ed ha studiato Tabla sotto la guida del Maestro Sree Torun Banerjee. In seguito ha insegnato in una scuola di musica nel sud dell’India svolgendo anche attività concertistica.
Si è poi trasferito in Europa dove svolge un’intensa attività concertistica e collabora con l’Ambasciata dell’India a Roma; è molto richiesto come accompagnatore di artisti in transito in Europa.
Rashmi ha scelto Firenze come sua residenza e tiene regolarmente concerti, seminari e lezioni di musica indiana presso i conservatori.
Affascinato dalle possibilità di sperimentazione e fusione tra le varie etnie e i loro linguaggi musicali, ha iniziato a collaborare con musicisti come Ayub Okada, Tullio De Piscopo, Tony Esposito, Markus Stockhausen, Nusrat Fateh, Alì Khan e Michel Brook. E’ direttore artistico del World Rhythm Festival – Percussionistica e ha formato il gruppo multietnico “The Third Planet”
Questo grande artista sarà al fianco di tre musicisti lucchesi: Matteo Sodini batteria, Paolo Sodini chitarra e Filippo Guerrieri tastiere.
