It may have not been noticed by the hundreds of people cramming into the church in Barga Vecchia but it did not escape the attention of the photographer covering the event.
A ghostly white figure with a white shroud covering the head stood immobile on the balcony right through the conclusion of the Via Crucis – stations of the cross in the 15th-century Santissimo Crocifisso Church.
