This years San Cristoforo d’Oro ceremony was opened with an honorary citizenship awarded to Maestro Nicholas Swietlan Kraczyna.
“Fifty years had passed since his arrival in Barga. A long and profound bond, an artistic and life partnership with our town. When we thought back to the many works that Kraczyna had gifted us over these years, we didn’t know which one to look at with greater affection: the historical center, the many views, Giovanni Pascoli. We should interpret Kraczyna’s love for our land, which on that occasion we could truly call his land, as a great gift for all of us. An artist who honoured Barga, taking it with him around the world by exhibiting in many countries. For all these reasons, we made him an honorary citizen of Barga.” – Mayor – Caterina Campani
The special “Golden San Cristoforo” was awarded to Cav. Ronnie Convery, Honorary Consul of Italy in Glasgow, for his constant commitment and valuable work in maintaining strong relations between Barga and Scotland, capable of reinforcing a true and profound bond of friendship.
It was presented to the Filarmonica Gaetano Luporini, which has carried on an ancient band tradition of two hundred years of making music in Barga and also to the Misericordia of Tiglio, on the occasion of the hundred years of the association’s activity, which stood as an example of solidarity, strength, perseverance, and humanity.
Other wards were given to the Giovanni Pascoli Foundation, which has over the years keeping interest in the words of the poet alive and disseminating his work in a widespread manner.
Maria Chiara Bertieri, for her work as a doctor at San Francesco Hospital in Barga; Dalida Gonnella, courageous entrepreneur, for her ability to grasp the commercial potential of Barga, contributing to the growth of the economic fabric and making the town livelier.
Massimo Salotti, a musician of rare sensitivity and dedication, for the success achieved with the performance at the archaeological site of Antichi Palchi, in tribute to the great Callas; and to the three retired teachers Cristina Ciari, Luciana Comparini, and Monica Bertieri, for dedicating their lives to teaching and transforming it into a mission.
At the conclusion of the 2023 edition, the following commendations are awarded:
- To Class II B of the middle school in Barga, for their significant achievement of third place in the Transalpine Mathematical Rally.
- To the graduates of the middle schools who achieved the highest grades: Marianna Salotti, Sofia Giunta, and Noemi Cecconello.
- To the graduates of the high schools who achieved the highest grades: Americo Funai and Monica Renucci from the evening course.
- To the students Beatrice Castellucci, Gioele Simonini, and Valeria Nardini.

La cerimonia del “San Cristoforo d’Oro” di quest’anno è stata aperta con la cittadinanza onoraria conferita al Maestro Nicholas Swietlan Kraczyna.
“Cinquanta anni erano trascorsi dal suo arrivo a Barga. Un legame lungo e profondo, una partnership artistica e di vita con la nostra città. Quando ripensavamo alle molte opere che Kraczyna ci aveva regalato in questi anni, non sapevamo a quale guardarne con maggiore affetto: il centro storico, le molte vedute, Giovanni Pascoli. Dovremmo interpretare l’amore di Kraczyna per la nostra terra, che in quell’occasione potevamo veramente chiamare la sua terra, come un grande dono per tutti noi. Un artista che ha onorato Barga, portandola con sé in tutto il mondo, esponendo in molti paesi. Per tutte queste ragioni, lo abbiamo reso cittadino onorario di Barga.” – Sindaco – Caterina Campani
Il “San Cristoforo d’Oro” speciale è stato assegnato a Cav. Ronnie Convery, Console Onorario d’Italia a Glasgow, per il suo costante impegno e prezioso lavoro nel mantenere forti relazioni tra Barga e la Scozia, capaci di rafforzare un legame di amicizia vero e profondo.
È stato consegnato alla Filarmonica Gaetano Luporini, che ha portato avanti l’antica tradizione bandistica di duecento anni di fare musica a Barga e anche alla Misericordia di Tiglio, in occasione dei cento anni di attività dell’associazione, che si è distinta come esempio di solidarietà, forza, perseveranza e umanità.
Altre onorificenze sono state assegnate alla Fondazione Giovanni Pascoli, che nel corso degli anni ha mantenuto vivo l’interesse per le parole del poeta e ha diffuso il suo lavoro in modo ampio.
A Maria Chiara Bertieri, per il suo lavoro come medico presso l’Ospedale San Francesco di Barga; a Dalida Gonnella, coraggiosa imprenditrice, per la sua capacità di cogliere le potenzialità commerciali di Barga, contribuendo alla crescita del tessuto economico e rendendo la città più vivace.
A Massimo Salotti, musicista di rara sensibilità e dedizione, per il successo ottenuto con la performance presso il sito archeologico di Antichi Palchi, in omaggio alla grande Callas; e ai tre insegnanti in pensione Cristina Ciari, Luciana Comparini e Monica Bertieri, per aver dedicato le loro vite all’insegnamento e averlo trasformato in una missione.

Alla Classe II B della scuola media di Barga, per il loro significativo risultato del terzo posto al Rally Matematico Transalpino.
Ai diplomati delle scuole medie che hanno ottenuto i voti più alti: Marianna Salotti, Sofia Giunta e Noemi Cecconello.
Ai diplomati delle scuole superiori che hanno ottenuto i voti più alti: Americo Funai e Monica Renucci del corso serale.
Agli studenti Beatrice Castellucci, Gioele Simonini e Valeria Nardini.
