Il Giornale del MURF

As we published earlier this year (article here) some of those new changes to the museum Rocche e Fortificazioni in Barga Vecchia which were presented that morning by the mayor of Barga, Caterina Campani, and the curator, Lucia Morelli are now taking shape.

Making culture means making it easy for people to access the history of our area. This is why we want to create a path of valorization of the museum, with the goal of giving this space new momentum. We do it with a clear policy: reinvesting resources from the area, such as the tourist tax, in cultural activities, events open to the public, and initiatives that can bring people closer to history, art, and theater. The valorisation of the museum, with the attentive and thorough activity and the experience of Lucia Morelli, will give citizens, visitors, and students the opportunity to discover what surrounds us closely, following innovative and immersive itineraries. – Mayor Caterina Campani

In the Volta dei Menchi in Barga Vecchia, the museum has opened its doors to tourists, visitors, and schools with a series of activities, workshops, exhibitions and events all dedicated to promoting the local area.

The Museum will become an attractive and informative center from which activities, projects, initiatives, exhibitions, and everything that can contribute to the story of our territory will start. The goal is to valorise with educational and didactic activities, involving citizens and the many active realities in Barga. Among the first interlocutors are the schools (of all levels) with guided tours with itineraries. In addition to guided tours, educational and museum education activities (workshops, role-playing games, activities that involve the five senses, not just figurative languages but also body languages and creative writing) will also be offered. – Lucia Morelli, curator and art historian

A journalism laboratory aimed at children aged 9 to 15 has been launched at MURF, the multimedia museum Rocche e Fortificazioni Valle del Serchio.

The laboratory combines skills in writing, layout design, photography, and illustration, merging traditional techniques with new technologies. The project is called “Il Giornale del MURF” (The MURF Newspaper) and, starting with an in-depth exploration of the museum’s content, which showcases the history, culture, resources, and traditions of the entire valley, it aims to create an editorial team of young people capable of connecting with the world and the surrounding territory.

This initiative, made possible and free for all families, is thanks to the contribution of BVLG Banca Versilia Lunigiana Garfagnana – Cooperative Credit, and it is organized by the Venti d’Arte APS association in collaboration with the MURF museum. It is endorsed by the Municipality of Barga, specifically the Department of Culture and Education, and receives valuable collaboration from the Giornale di Barga newspaper and the Giovanni Pascoli Comprehensive Institute in Barga.

The project, which started at the end of June, will run until November, with a break in August. Alongside the weekly sessions, there will be a schedule of meetings with industry professionals who will delve into techniques and methods related to various topics.

Guided by teachers Clara Curto, Angela Masotti, Lucia Morelli, and Francesco Tomei, the children will recount events, places, and atmospheres through interviews, reports, and in-depth pieces. The teachers will be joined by professionals in the field, including, in the first part of the project, journalist Marco Tortelli, photographer Caterina Salvi, and Luca Galeotti, journalist and Director of the Giornale di Barga newspaper.

The project was introduced to families during the first meeting of the series by Mayor Caterina Campani and Councilor for Education Lorenzo Tonini. Also present at that occasion, alongside the teachers, was Sergio Canozzi, the territorial area manager of BVLG Banca Versilia Lunigiana Garfagnana – Cooperative Credit.

“The idea arises from the content potential of the multimedia museum in Barga, which offers multiple paths and possibilities for in-depth exploration of themes ranging from history to past traditions. The creation of an editorial team not only allows young people to immerse themselves in professional environments, but above all, it becomes a forge of knowledge to understand and comprehend reality.” – Lucia Morelli, Director of the MURF museum.

The newspaper, whose first issue was released this afternoon,  contains articles about the local reality, accompanied by photos and drawings, making it a tool for understanding not only the MURF museum but also, and above all, the entire Serchio Valley in its historical, geographical, cultural, and folkloric aspects.
