Its been a very eventful 2023 for Swietlan Nicholas Kraczyna, the internationally acclaimed master engraver who has made the medieval city of Barga his summer retreat since 1973.
The exhibition “Kraczyna 50 years in Barga” which opened during the summer (article with many images here) at the Santa Elisabetta Conservatory in Barga Vecchia promoted by the Comune of Barga, in collaboration with the Giovanni Pascoli Foundation and the Santa Elisabetta Conservatory Foundation, under the patronage of the Tuscany Region and with the support of Villa Pascoli Onlus, included approximately 100 works ranging from 1973 to 2023, all dedicated to the city of Barga and the landscape of Garfagnana.
During the exhibition, an imposing installation created from Kraczyna’s works: a combination of the iconic Barga Castle with the character of Icarus, which the artist had depicted multiple times was added to the the facade of the Teatro dei Differenti in Barga vecchia.
This morning another eventful moment took place as Silvia Hetzel and Swietlan Nicholas Kraczyna were married by the Mayor of Barga, Caterina Campani, in Palazzo Pancrazi.

Il 2023 è stato un anno molto ricco di eventi per Swietlan Nicholas Kraczyna, l’acclamato incisore internazionale che ha scelto la città medievale di Barga come suo rifugio estivo dal 1973.
La mostra “Kraczyna 50 anni a Barga”, inaugurata durante l’estate (articolo con molte immagini qui) presso il Conservatorio Santa Elisabetta a Barga Vecchia, promossa dal Comune di Barga, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Giovanni Pascoli e la Fondazione del Conservatorio Santa Elisabetta, sotto l’alto patronato della Regione Toscana e con il supporto di Villa Pascoli Onlus, includeva circa 100 opere dal 1973 al 2023, tutte dedicate alla città di Barga e al paesaggio della Garfagnana.
Durante la mostra, è stata aggiunta un’installazione imponente creata dalle opere di Kraczyna: una combinazione dell’iconico Castello di Barga con il personaggio di Icaro, che l’artista aveva raffigurato più volte, è stata collocata sulla facciata del Teatro dei Differenti a Barga Vecchia.
Questa mattina si è verificato un altro momento significativo, quando Silvia Hetzel e Swietlan Nicholas Kraczyna sono stati uniti in matrimonio dalla Sindaca di Barga, Caterina Campani, a Palazzo Pancrazi.
