The draw for the teams taking part in the Heritage Cup 2026 took place this afternoon in the clubhouse of the Gatti Randagi in Barga Vecchia, in a setting that combined local football, shared histories and a strong sense of community.
Just before proceedings began, those present observed a moment of silence following the news of the death of Swietlan “Nick” Kraczyna, who had recently collaborated with the Gatti Randagi on a series of Barga-themed T-shirts. The pause set a quiet, reflective tone before attention turned to the draw itself.
The Heritage Cup trophy, placed prominently at the front of the room, was a constant reminder of how quickly the tournament has grown from an idea into an established annual event. Around it, players and organisers gathered as the names of the participating teams were drawn from the bowls.
For the 2026 edition, the tournament will take place on 6–7 June, with six teams divided into two groups.
Group A will see Gatti Randagi, Glenmuir Utd and Strand Celtic face each other, while Group B will feature Farafulla, Saint Chamond Foot and a visiting Scottish team, continuing the tournament’s strong international flavour.
The origins of the Heritage Cup lie firmly in Barga. The idea was promoted by members of the Gatti Randagi — already closely linked to Celtic FC in Glasgow through shared colours and long-standing friendships — together with Declan Walsh, an Irishman from Dublin who made Barga his home. Drawing on those connections, Walsh helped bring together the Gatti Randagi, the Irish club Glenmuir United and Farafulla FC from Lunigiana, giving rise to the first triangular Heritage Cup held last June at the Impero pitch in Castelvecchio Pascoli.
This afternoon’s draw underlined how that initial idea has continued to evolve. What began as a friendly meeting of green-and-white teams has become a broader celebration of football, identity and the ties that link Barga with Ireland, Scotland and beyond. As the teams were confirmed and conversations carried on long after the draw, attention was already turning to June — and to another weekend where football will once again provide the excuse for people, stories and traditions to meet.

Il sorteggio delle squadre che prenderanno parte alla Heritage Cup 2026 si è svolto questo pomeriggio nella clubhouse dei Gatti Randagi a Barga Vecchia, in un contesto che ha unito calcio locale, storie condivise e un forte senso di comunità.
Poco prima dell’inizio delle operazioni è stato osservato un momento di silenzio, dopo che era appena giunta la notizia della morte di Swietlan “Nick” Kraczyna, che di recente aveva collaborato con i Gatti Randagi alla realizzazione di una serie di magliette a tema Barga. Una pausa composta e raccolta, che ha dato un tono riflessivo all’incontro prima di passare al sorteggio vero e proprio.
Il trofeo della Heritage Cup, collocato in evidenza al centro della sala, ha ricordato a tutti quanto rapidamente il torneo sia cresciuto, trasformandosi da semplice idea in un appuntamento annuale ormai consolidato. Attorno al tavolo, giocatori e organizzatori hanno seguito l’estrazione dei nomi delle squadre dalle urne.
Per l’edizione 2026, in programma il 6 e 7 giugno, parteciperanno sei squadre suddivise in due gironi.
Nel Gruppo A si affronteranno Gatti Randagi, Glenmuir Utd e Strand Celtic.
Il Gruppo B vedrà invece la presenza di Farafulla, Saint Chamond Foot e di una squadra scozzese, a conferma del forte respiro internazionale del torneo.
Le origini della Heritage Cup sono profondamente legate a Barga. L’idea è stata promossa dai membri dei Gatti Randagi — da tempo legati al Celtic di Glasgow attraverso colori condivisi e amicizie di lunga data — insieme a Declan Walsh, irlandese di Dublino che ha scelto Barga come sua casa. Grazie a questi legami, Walsh ha contribuito a coinvolgere i Gatti Randagi, il club irlandese Glenmuir United e il Farafulla FC della Lunigiana, dando vita alla prima edizione triangolare della Heritage Cup, disputata lo scorso giugno al campo dell’Impero di Castelvecchio Pascoli.
Il sorteggio di questo pomeriggio ha confermato come quell’idea iniziale continui a evolversi. Quello che era nato come un incontro amichevole tra squadre in verde e bianco è diventato oggi una celebrazione più ampia del calcio, dell’identità e dei legami che uniscono Barga all’Irlanda, alla Scozia e oltre. Con le squadre ormai definite e le conversazioni proseguite ben oltre il sorteggio, lo sguardo era già rivolto a giugno — e a un nuovo fine settimana in cui il calcio sarà ancora una volta il pretesto per far incontrare persone, storie e tradizioni.
