The sound of hammers banging away right through the day in Barga Vecchia is always a good sign this time of year as it generally means that the annual Operabarga Festival is underway. We would like to be more precise but details are very difficult to come by.
From a site in Wales we can read that, ” the students from the International Academy of Voice will undertake a three-week residency in the Italian town of Barga where they will perform a gala of operatic arias and ensembles, a sacred music concert, and a full-scale opera – Donizetti’s L’Ajo nell’imbarazzo (The Tutor in a Jam).
And from the Giornale di Barga site ” Nuovo appuntamento nell’ambito del 4° Corso di Alto Perfezionamento dell’International Academy of Voice della Cardiff University diretta da Dennis O’Neill, organizzato dal Festival Opera Barga. Il 15 maggio ci sarà al teatro dei Differenti di Barga l’anteprima dell’opera “Ajo nell’imbarazzo” di Gaetano Donizetti, ore 21.00 L’ingresso è gratuito.”
So it looks as though it’s going to be Donizetti this year but something a bit more official would be nice. The official operabarga site has not been updated since last year, so no further details there.
