Internet appeal - help a starving artist in Boston USA
An artist living in Boston USA, who has been a daily reader of barganews for more than 4 years, this morning launched an unusual appeal; The arving startist - help a starving artist - desperate times call for desperate measures. From his site we can read the following words;
HELP A STARVING ARTIST
"this is not a joke. the job market for artists and designers here in boston is almost nonexistent. jobs are scarce, and what few there are available are applied for by about 150 designers and artists each time. my lack of having a job is not for a lack of trying; i apply for every job i stand a remote chance of getting. when i do get a response to a resume other than "we've received your resume and are checking it against our needs at the present time" or somesuch, i tend to get to the final selection before finding out that yet again, i did not get the job. as frustrating as it is, i push on. in my spare time, i deal with the stress of it all by making art. i have sold pretty much everything not connected to making art. i am now completely out of money."
"desperate times call for desperate measures. until i can find a job, i have decided to make an internet plea for assistance. however, unlike many internet pleas for assistance from people wishing to get out of credit card debt, i am doing this in order to maintain a residence, and i am offering something in return. as an artist, i am constantly working on making things — drawings, prints, etc. if you will donate money to help me survive, i will give you something in return. you can think of it as donating money so that someone doesn't get evicted, or you can think of it as buying a piece of art that someone made with their own hands."
"i'm not going to pretend that i'm perfect in this situation. i have made mistakes in getting myself to this point, i will freely admit that. right now it is getting serious, though. my landlord is getting to the end of his generosity. i have to start giving him something. this plea isn't something i want to do, but desperate times call for desperate measures."

So how's about:
"...starving chef..."; or:
"...starving musician..."; or (even a tad less facetiously, given the time of year) just simply:
" ..starving little third (or, all the more poignantly, first) world fuck..." who has nothing of any worth to barter in return - other than his life - and who doesn't even possess the cultural or intellectual tools to figure-out how to present an internet appeal to the world at large - simply because he's been starving since the day he was born and just never quite managed to work-up the life-force to piss about with Pay-fucking-Pal and 'compagnia bella'.
All this to ensure that some other smug fuck can put his conscience at ease by charging his credit card and therefore, with a clever twist in moral mumbo-jumbo, confound empathy with commerce - all in the best north-western (viz-a-viz planet earth) tradition.
Bravo da-fucking-vvero!
Comunque: just to show no hard feelings, I shall credit the starving artist in question with euro 1,40. This will not pay the rent (or much else, for that matter); but is simply the price of a small glass of beer at the, by now, world famous Casciani's Bar in Barga (the appeal was brought to my attention through the 'pages' of barganews.com, after all).
Were he to share this drink with others more (and/or less) fortunate than himself in said establishment; I am sure that he would be able (temporarily, at least) to view his predicament with a different set of eyes and, in any case, find kindred spirits who would have no problem in providing a roof over his head for the night (assuming that were the problem).
Ho, Ho, Ho, and a Merry-Fucking-X-Mas to the lot of you!
P.S. No need for any "art" in return. Such random super-market shopping is best done in a ... well..., super-market!
