Not content with staying out most of the night in freezing temperatures photographing the conditions in and around Barga,  the award-winning barganews photographer O’Connor was out and about in the  city again at first light this morning.  He was there to capture  images of the Barghigiani  as they came to terms with the fact that just moving around this morning was going to be very difficult.

For many people it was a day without a car as digging it out from the snow was just too much like hard work and anyway the roads were still pretty dicey.
Snowploughs had worked right through the night clearing most of the main roads but some of the side roads were still almost knee deep in snow.
Moving around on foot in Barga Vecchia was also very difficult but luckily the Comune workers were out in force clearing paths through the snow.
The temperature during the day has never risen above freezing and it is expected that this evening thermometers will be showing -4, -5 or even -6 so once again moving around is going to be very difficult for those unprepared.

EDIT: news just in that the schools in the area have now officially been declared shut on Monday …. you can hear the massed voices of the Barga school children voicing their approval from here
